1、 What is titanium?
Titanium alloy is a new type of structural and functional material, which has excellent comprehensive properties, small density and high specific strength. The density of titanium is 4.51g/cm3, which is between aluminum (2.7g / cm3) and iron (7.6g / cm3). The specific strength of titanium alloy is higher than that of aluminum alloy and steel, and its toughness is equal to that of steel. The corrosion resistance of titanium and titanium alloy is better than that of stainless steel, especially in the marine atmosphere, which resists the corrosion of chloride ion and micro oxidation atmosphere. The working temperature of titanium alloy is wide. The low temperature titanium alloy can maintain good plasticity at - 253 ℃, while the working temperature of heat-resistant titanium alloy can reach about 550 ℃, and its heat resistance is significantly higher than that of aluminum alloy and magnesium alloy. At the same time, it has good machinability and weldability.
Advantages of titanium metal: high strength, light weight, high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, strong modulus of elasticity is about half of that of steel, low coefficient of thermal expansion, about 50% of that of stainless steel and aluminum, nonmagnetic, low thermal conductivity, corrosion resistance, no pollution to the environment, etc. Therefore, titanium has been widely used not only in aerospace industry and chemical industry, but also in automobile industry. Titanium for automobile can greatly reduce vehicle weight, reduce fuel consumption, improve work efficiency, improve environment and reduce noise.
2、 What are the applications of titanium in automobiles?
In engine system: titanium alloy can be used to make spark plug, valve, valve spring, valve spring seat, connecting rod and other parts
Air valve is another popular titanium alloy application object. Because the working temperature of air valve (especially exhaust valve) is high, about 900 ℃, the conventional Ti-6Al-4V alloy and TiB2 / TiC Reinforced Titanium alloy can not meet the requirements of oxidation resistance and creep resistance. Titanium alloy has high temperature strength and oxidation resistance. It has been used to prepare racing valve. It has high temperature resistance, high strength of titanium metal and light weight;
In chassis parts: mainly titanium alloy spring, shock absorber;
Due to the high elastic limit (σ E) and low elastic modulus (E) of titanium alloy, its elastic strain (σ 2E / 2e) is very high, which is more than 10 times of that of steel spring. Therefore, using titanium alloy spring will obviously improve the riding comfort;
Exhaust system: turbo booster, exhaust pipe
Titanium alloy has good welding performance, and is not easy to crack from the weld as stainless steel. Therefore, the service life of titanium alloy exhaust valve is longer, which is 12-14 years, while stainless steel generally has to be replaced within 7 years. Compared with titanium metal material, it is lighter than stainless steel material (see the figure below)

3、 Titanium lubricant
Put titanium into special liquid medicine, decompose it under a certain temperature and high pressure into titanium atoms that can only be seen clearly with an electron microscope of more than 200000 times, and then add the decomposed titanium atoms as additives to the lubricating oil, thus forming liquid titanium metal lubricating oil, commonly known as titanium adding oil.
Titanium engine oil is the first time that American military technology has been applied to civil vehicles. Compared with ordinary lubricants, titanium lubricants have three outstanding characteristics:
(1) Able to withstand higher load
Due to the strong corrosion resistance of titanium metal, when exposed to high temperature air, a layer of blunt oxide protective film will be formed. Therefore, when the engine is running at high pressure and high speed, adding titanium lubricating oil can automatically track the pressure point, generate a protective film, reduce the wear of the engine, and better protect the engine.
(2) Self healing
Titanium, as a liquid metal, can not only improve the oxidation resistance of the engine, but also has the function of self repair. Adding titanium oil forms a protective film at the place where engine friction is most frequent, which is like adding a wear-resistant shield to the engine wear point. Because it protects the engine at the molecular level, it can make the engine run longer.

Adding titanium lubricating oil has very strong heat dissipation effect.
